Sarah Swalberg won the javelin toss at the recently completed 1-A state track championships held at BYU in Provo. Swalberg, a junior at Green River High, won the event with a throw of 135 feet 2 inches. This throw was the best of the day by any girl in any classification. The next best throw was about eight feet shorter.

Swalberg scored 10 of the Pirate's 22 points with that win. Swalberg added two more points with a seventh place finish in the shot put.

Sophomore Megan Hatt scored the rest of the Green River points. Hatt placed in three different events. Hatt took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, fifth in the long jump and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Justin Johnson scored the only points for the Green River boys with an eighth place finish in the javelin.

Winning the state title in the boys division was Rich High with 105 points. In a tough battle for second place, Duchesne won with 63 points while Milford and Panguitch each scored 62 points, Piute scored 60 points and Wasatch Academy scored 59 points.

St. Joseph repeated as the girls champion with 101 points. Duchesne also finished second here with 78 points followed by Piute with 63 points and Monticello with 61 points.
