Sarah Jewkes Robertson, 99, passed away July 16, 2010 at the Emery County Care and Rehab Center in Ferron. She was born June 27, 1911 in Orangeville, Utah to John Irving and Annie Logan Jewkes. She married Wilburn "Buck" Robertson Nov. 6, 1933 and later solemnized in the Manti Temple on June 20, 1935. Buck passed away Nov. 12, 1984.
Sarah was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has lived in an Orangeville Ward all of her life. She has always served as a faithful visiting teacher and was a member of the Clique Club for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Old Folks Committee for many years. She worked in the name extraction program in the Castle Dale Family History Center. She worked at the original Emery County Nursing Home in Castle Dale and sewed parachutes in Manti for Sorenson Mfg.
As a young woman she spent a lot of time at the Jewkes/Van Buren saw mill driving a team of horses and a running gear loaded with logs over the White Dugway to Orangeville. Sarah made dancing a great part of her life. She and Buck went to all the dances. She taught her children to sing while riding in the car. Music was always a part of daily life for the family. She truly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and her daughters-in-law and sons- in-laws were considered her own children to her.
Sarah is survived by her children: Cloyd W. ( Merlene) Robertson of Orangeville, Royce H. Robertson of Edmond, Okla., Carolyn (Dale) Jensen of Edmunds, Wash., Deanna (Chuck) Harris of Orangeville, Barbara (Kent) Peterson of Orangeville, Vaunda (Tom) Troyer of Reno, Nev., Gordon's wife Bert Gove of Holdredge, Neb. She has 28 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Delpha Mcfarlane of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law JoAnn Robertson, a son Gordon J. Robertson, her parents Annie and Irving Jewkes, a brother Thilmer Jewkes and two sisters Madge Leonard and Verna Jacob.
Friends may visit the family at the Heritage Funeral Home at 620 N. Main in Huntington on Wednesday July 21, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Orangeville Second Ward Chapel on Thursday July 22, 2010 at 12 p.m. (noon) with a visitation at the chapel from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services.
