The Green River Pirates played a double header against the ICS Lions on Tuesday and the West Ridge Eagles on Friday to wrap up the Pirates sixth away game. The Pirates are 2 and 4 going into their first home game against the Tabiona Tigers on Aug. 18.

The Pirates have a veteran squad with six seniors, a sophomore and two freshmen starting for the team but unforced errors at the plate and on the field have erased leads that the Pirates have taken into the final innings.

Frustration on the part of the players and coaching staff has taken a toll but brighter days are ahead as the Pirates are slated to begin region play at the end of the week.

A few highlights include Jason Johnson pounding a grand slam home run during the second game against the ICS Lions and at one point while Sarah Swalberg was on the mound for the Pirates, she was 14 for 16 on called strikes.

On a deep hit to the right field during the ICS game at the Panguitch tournament, McKay Thayn, Jason Johnson, Sarah Swalberg, Holden Marshall and Justin Johnson all assisted in a beautifully choreographed throw from right field to home plate to snuff out an in the park home run.

During the West Ridge game Justin Johnson threw a rocket to Hayden Pfander for an exciting out at third.

There are enough highlights and good solid baseball to keep the Pirates hungering for wins and to eliminate the unforced errors. There is excitement in the dugout and this is being felt on the field and at the bat.
