Emery doubles team leads pack

With one region match to go before the Lady Spartans reach the half way point of the season, the first doubles of team of Anna Turner and Marqui Moss are leading the region with a 3-0 record. Anna and Marqui have defeated Manti, Delta and North Sanpete. The second doubles team of Tanya Higbee and Shantelle Hansen also have gone 3-0 in the first half of region and also lead the region.

Last week, Emery lost both matches they played, first to Carbon and then to North Sanpete. Both scores were 3-2.

In the non-region contest against Carbon, Shantelle Hansen and Tanya Higbee stepped this day to play first doubles and won 6-1, 6-0. The second doubles team of Laurel Jeffries and D'Lee Gardner won 6-4, 75.

Marqui Moss at 1st singles lost 6-4, 0-6 and 4-6. Whitney Withers at 2nd singles lost 4-6, 5-7. Teyana Elliot lost as 3rd singles 4-6, 5-7.

Against North Sanpete, Turner and Moss won at first doubles 6-2, 6-3. Higbee and Hansen won 6-4, 6-4. Withers lost at first singles by a score of 4-6, 5-7. Teyana Elliot lost at 2nd singles 4-6, 2-6. D'Lee Gardner lost at third singles.

Head Coach Tom Hansen, "Our doubles team have long been good but now are single teams are getting constantly better. We are not winning yet in singles but our scores are now nearly always close. We have made a lot of progress this season."
