Phil Fauver speaks about the flag. "Saluting the flag of the United States Of America is now a privilege and an honor for veterans of wars fought by the USA around the world. The recent National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009 authorizes 'members of the Armed Forces and Veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute.' Veterans are now authorized to salute the flag during the National Anthem as well as during 'the hoisting, lowering and passing of the flag'. It was sponsored by Senator James Inhof (R-OK). "At the recent Republican Lincoln Day breakfast I was thrilled and honored to be able to salute the USA flag as it was being posted by the Order Of The Arrow, the Pledge of Allegiance and as the National Anthem was being sung by Elizabeth Fuller. My right hand shook like a leaf in a high wind as I rendered the military salute. This is the first time since being discharged from the US Army in 1955 that I felt the excitement and thrill of saluting the flag. The putting of the hand over the heart is still great, but saluting the flag is special for this Veteran." said Fauver. More information about saluting the flag can be found at freedomteamsalute.com.
