The Lady Spartans overcame a tremendous free throw difference to win their second region game of the year as they traveled to Mt. Pleasant and defeated the North Sanpete Hawks 63-49. The Spartan record is now 7-6 for the year and 2-1 in region eight play.
While the Spartans were a respectable eight for 14 at the line, North Sanpete went to the line an astonishing 45 times and connected on 25 of those attempts.
The Lady Spartans made 14 more field goals than the Hawks with three of those being three-point shots. The 31-point difference from the field was huge for the Spartans as they witnessed the parade to the free throw line by North Sanpete.
McKell Huntington paced the Spartans with 21 points. Jennifer Nielson added 12 points and Amber Hansen added 11. Natalie Gardner had eight; Misty Nielson and Pitchforth had four each.
The Lady Spartans continue region play this week with games Tuesday at Lehi and Thursday against the Carbon Dinos at home in the Spartan Center at 7 p.m.
