Alvero "Mori" Rojas
HELPER/ORANGEVILLE-Alvero Rojas passed away Jan. 26, 2011 at the Emery County Nursing Home in Ferron just days before his 82nd birthday.
He was born Jan. 29, 1929 in Portland, Colo. to Longino and Petra Reyes Rojas.
Married Erminia "Minnie" Martinez, on Sept. 29, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they shared many years in Helper before Minnie's passing on Jan. 22, 2010.
Member of the Catholic Church. Mori worked in various mines in the area and was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Hiawatha Local #6363. He honorably served his country in the US Navy during World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
Mori was a handyman who enjoyed making crafts of any kind. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and barbequing. Mori loved to keep busy and he was just waiting for the weather to warm up so he could start riding his 4-wheeler again.
He is survived by three daughters and one son, Teresa (Joe) Jacquez, Elisa (Jerome) Pehler, Price, Dolly (Richard) Martinez, and Robert (Zelda) Rojas, Orangeville; one brother and three sisters, Louie Rojas, Los Angeles, Calif., Julia Gonzales, Shawnee, Colo., Tillie Martinez, Helper, Reva Truba, Ogden; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Valarie D. Martinez; and brothers, Max and Manuel Rojas.
Funeral Mass, Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service, Sunday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will receive friends at the church Sunday and Monday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Mori at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
