The Emery High Baseball team finished an up and down season with a loss to the Snow Canyon Warriors last Friday. With the loss, the Spartans finished the season tied for fifth place in 3-A baseball. This greatly exceeded the forecasters predictions for this team but not the team and their expectations of themselves.
Emery's two losses in this tournament came against the eventual champion PineView 4-0 last week in Washington and against second place finisher Snow Canyon 10-0 in Ogden Friday morning. Emery defeated Cedar City 6-2 Thursday morning and whipped Tooele 7-3 Thursday afternoon to make it to the final six.
Against Cedar City, Bowie Jeffs pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters in the process to pick up the victory. He allowed a run in the sixth inning and another in the seventh. Emery, on the other hand, scored one run apiece in the second and third innings and then added four more in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jeffs and Chandler Pearson each went two for three at the plate to pace the Spartans. Pearson also added an RBI and scored twice for the Spartans.
In the afternoon game, Pearson went on the mound for the Spartans and also got the victory in a complete game performance. He struck out 10 Tooele batsmen in the victory.
Tooele was able to score only in the third inning as Emery shut them down the rest of the way. The Spartans scored five runs in the second inning and a run each in the fourth and sixth innings. Kadin Wilson, Chandler Tanner and Brady Larsen each had a double in the Spartan victory. Emery had a total of 12 hits in the game while Pearson allowed Tooele only four.
On Friday, the Spartans managed only two hits against Snow Canyon as the warriors sent Emery packing 10-0. Tyrel Bennett, Landon Watson and Conlee Luke all pitched for the Spartans, as they gave up 10 runs and 13 hits. One of Emery's hits was a triple by Garrett Swenson.
With most of the team back next year, the Emery fans should have high expectations for next season.
