Emery High boys get a three point win over Union.

Both Emery High basketball teams went into the holiday break by sneaking out a three-point victory in their final pre-Christmas outing. At home the Spartan men's team defeated Union 55-52 and on the road the Emery ladies defeated Millard 62-59.
The Emery-Millard game finished much closer than it was played the entire night as the Eagles points came in a flurry at the end of the contest. Emery led by 20 throughout a lot of the second half before barely sneaking out the win.
The Emery men on the other hand were in a dogfight all night long and actually trailed late in the game before they managed to pull out the win.
Emery led 15-7 after the first quarter in what turned out to be the biggest lead of the night that either team would have. At the half, Emery led 20-17. The two teams were tied at 41-41 after the third quarter before the Spartans grabbed the win at the end of the game.
Sophomore Dillon Wilstead, maybe playing the best game of his Spartan career, led the team with 21 points. Junior Bailey Faimalo, the leading scorer for the season for Emery, followed with 10 points.
The rest of the scoring was a balanced affair as four Spartans scored five points each in the game and another scored four points. Brendon Jorgensen, Spencer Labrum, Dawson Jensen and Corbin Barnett each had five while Curtis Mason was right behind them.
Faimalo led the team with 4 steals while Jorgensen and Jensen each had 5 rebounds for Emery. Jorgensen had 2 assists for Emery.
The Lady Spartans had nine different players score in their game. Ashlynn Allred led the team with 11 points with Jeridi Price and Hannah Dyer right behind with 9 points each.
Ashton Bell scored 8 points, Shelby Allred scored 7 points, Lexie Huntington scored 6 points, Kelsie Cox scored 5 points, Bailey Rasmussen scored 4 points and Emily Olsen scored 3 points.
Price led the team with 8 rebounds while Huntington and Shelby Allred each pulled down 5 rebounds. Huntington and Cox each had 4 steals in the game while Price, Dyer and Rasmussen each had 3. Cox led the team with 3 assists.
For the season, Emery is averaging 47.8 points per game. Emery is shooting 43 percent inside the three-point line, 29 percent outside the three-point line and 66 percent at the free throw line.
Individually, Ashlynn Allred leads the team in scoring with an 11.4 scoring average followed by Price with a scoring average of 9.2. The other starters averages are Rasmussen with a 6.9, Shelby Allred with a 5.8 and Cox with 4.2.
From the field, the Emery team is averaging 39 percent with Ashlynn Allred leading the team with a 51 percent shooting rate and Rasmussen shooting 41 percent.
At the free throw line, Shelby Allred is leading the team by hitting 77 percent of her shots while Ashlynn Allred and Price are hitting 69 percent of their shots. The team is shooting 66 percent as a whole.
Ashlynn Allred leads the team in steals with 50 while Price has 21. Price leads the team in rebounds with 69 with Rasmussen having 56. Rasmussen leads the team with 9 blocked shots. Cox has 20 assists while Ashlynn Allred has 18 for the year.
The Emery men's team will be at home twice this week with a game January 2 against Dugway and then the Spartans will open region play with a game against the defending 2-A state champions South Sevier on Friday night.
The Lady Spartans will be on the road in their lone game of the week as they travel to South Sevier to begin region play. That game is Friday night.
