BACKGROUND
Huntington Power Plant (HPP) is a 960 megawatt (MW) coal fired steam
electric generation facility. The facility is located in Emery
County, Section 1, Township 17 South, Range 7 East, approximately 6
miles northwest of Huntington, UT on Highway 31. Storm water runoff
and naturally occurring spring water from an un-named local wash is
potentially impacted by groundwater contamination from the two ash
landfills on the site. This water is collected and can be discharged
through a metal culvert into Huntington Creek. Generally it is pumped
to two holding ponds where it is mixed with process water and spray
irrigated onto the farm field found on the facility. The discharge
from the spray irrigation is regulated under the facility's
groundwater permit.
