The Forest Service, Manti-La Sal National Forest, Ferron-Price Ranger
District, is preparing a Decision Memo for the Olsen Bench-McCadden
Hollow Water Development. This project proposes to construct water
developments on the Olsen Bench S&G and Gentry C&H grazing allotments
beginning in the spring of 2014. The proposed action description and
other information are available for review at the Ferron-Price

Four of the five proposed water developments will be constructed on
the Olsen Bench Sheep and Goat Grazing Allotment which is located 15
miles northwest of the town of Castle Dale. The other water
development would be placed on the Gentry Cattle and Horse Allotment
11 miles northwest of the town of Huntington. The troughs and their
general locations on the allotment are:
â¢ Switchback Trough: The pipeline and trough will be placed on
top switchback approaching the White Dugway above Joe's Valley
Reservoir on Forest Service Road #0008. The length of the
pipeline would be approximately 750 ft long.
â¢ White Dugway Trough: The trough will be located just south of
Forest Service Road #0008 on the White Dugway above Joe's
Valley Reservoir. The pipeline length would be approximately
â¢ Grassy Road Trough: This pipeline and trough will be placed on
Forest Service Road #0055 and would be roughly 1,300 ft long.
â¢ Orange Olsen Guard Station: This trough will be located at
Orange-Olsen Guard Station and the pipeline would be
approximately 600 ft long.
â¢ McCadden Hollow: This trough will be located in McCadden
or on Gentry Mountain to the southeast of the stockpond and
would have a pipeline measuring approximately 2,500 ft.
The purpose of this comment period is to provide an opportunity for
the public to provide early and meaningful participation on a proposed
action prior to a decision being made by the Responsible Official.
Those who provide comments or otherwise express interest during this
comment period are eligible to appeal the decision pursuant to 36 CFR
part 215 regulations.
How to Comment and Timeframe
Written, facsimile, hand-delivered, and electronic comments
concerning this action will be accepted for 30 calendar days following
the publication of this notice in the Sun Advocate, Price, UT. The
publication date in the newspaper of record is the exclusive means for
calculating the comment period for this analysis. Those wishing to
comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided
by any other source. The regulations prohibit extending the length of
the comment period. It is the responsibility of persons providing
comments to submit them by the close of the comment period.
