|A storage building is being constructed at the public safety complex to house equipment used by the sheriff's office.|
Bids were opened at the municipal building authority meeting on Sept. 2 for heating for the new steel building at the public safety complex. Commissioner Gary Kofford explained that the bids for heating and also the electrical were posted with the idea that the MBA would see how much these items would cost and then make a determination.
The bids for the heating were submitted by Rams Industry in Orangeville and Dugmore Heating in Ferron. Four 30 foot tube heaters at a cost of $1,450 each could be installed or two 30 foot tube heaters and a furnace for the office area. The bid also included $944.20 for gas piping. The total bid was $6,744 for the four tube furnaces and the piping was submitted by Rams Industry.
The bid submitted by Dugmore included five tube heaters for the building, piping and venting for a total of $9,575. It was determined that the bids for the tube furnaces needed more information as far as efficiency ratings and the matter was tabled until further input could be gathered.
The general service contract was approved with UP&L in the amount of $2,941.24 to install a transformer for the storage building.
The general service contract with Questar was also approved in the amount of $606.17. The road department will also dig the trench for the gas line which will reduce costs. Sinbad Construction will do the installation work on the pipe and risers. This line will run parallel to the water and sewer lines already installed.
The bids for the electrical installation of 12, 400 watt halogen lights, five or six incandescent lights and four outlets, one by each garage door were opened. A bid by Bell Electrical in Orangeville was submitted for $4,531.20. Lofthouse Electrical also submitted a bid in the amount of $3,500. D&L Electrical also submitted a bid in the amount of $3,500. It was determined that the bid from D&L was more complete and included a price for any additional outlets needed and the bid was awarded to D&L Electrical from Clawson.
The metal storage building has been completed on the public safety complex site and the final walk-through was a week ago.
Commissioner Ira Hatch inquired as to the available funds in the MBA. Commissioner Kofford indicated they had $120,000 after the last meeting, and with the bills being paid at this time; including approximately $7,000 for the heating when it is approved that approximately $85,000 would remain in the MBA account.
Commissioner Kofford mentioned that a mineral lease payment had been received last week in the amount of $160,000.
Commissioner Hatch said they should begin to think about having the funds available when the payment is due on the courts building in late March of 2004 in the amount of $350,000.
It was determined that Clerk/Auditor Bruce Funk would meet with the commissioners to discuss the payments and meeting deadlines.
CIB funds were obtained to finish projects at the public safety complex including asphalt and landscaping. Commissioner Kofford said there is an obligation to CIB to finish the projects for which the funds were originally earmarked.
Drainage problems at the public safety complex were discussed and Rex Funk at the road department has been working to see that some of these problems are alleviated. It was also determined that Sahara would be contacted about a large pond which collects when it rains.
Commissioner Hatch mentioned the many times the county road department has been at the complex to correct problems left by the contractor or unforeseen situations. The road department anticipates that snow removal from the courts and sheriff's parking lot will be difficult because of the curves involved.
Commissioner Kofford mentioned that the state courts wants to have an open house at the courts building in the near future and he wants the jail facility open for tours also.
