PRICE - Our beloved Louise Hannah Mecham passed away in Price Dec. 1, 2001 following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan 23, 1917 in Huntington to Lafayette and Elsie Cyrene Hicks Chidester. She was married to Nolan D. Mecham Sept. 19, 1935 and later sealed together in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was raised in Altonah. She was an active member of the LDS Church where she served in many callings including relief society, primary president, and stake primary board which she enjoyed. She enjoyed many hobbies including reading, quilting, crocheting, oil painting, gardening, camping and especially loved dancing with her husband. She was a cook for the school lunch program, and actively worked for many years at the senior center in Price.
She is survived by daughter, Noleena (Donald) Denison, Price; two sons, Arlan D. (JoAnn) Mecham, West Valley; and Clive (Cathie) Mecham, Sandy. Also 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was the last of nine children in her family to pass away. She is also preceded in death by parents; husband; and a granddaughter, Debbie.
Friends may call for a visitation at the Fausett Mortuary in Price Monday, Dec. 3, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4, 11 a.m., in the Price LDS 4th Ward Chapel, with a viewing at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
FERRON - Our beloved Elam Leslie Jones, age 98, returned to his Heavenly home Nov. 28, in Ferron after a long struggle with causes incident to age.
He was born May 28, 1903 in Huntington, to Elam and Ada Sherman Jones. He was married to Mabel Powell Jan 31, 1924 in Huntington. They were later sealed together in the Manti LDS Temple. She passed away Feb. 1974.
He was a member of the LDS Church and had been a security guard for many years with the Dept. of Corrections. He was a justice of the peace in Huntington, and a member of the Huntington Men's Glee Club. He was also an active member with the senior center and other areas of his community. He was a high priest in the church and served in many positions throughout his life.
He is survived by three daughters, Velma Gardner, Donna Manchester, Lucy (Jack) Curtis, all of Huntington; 12 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Also two sisters, LaVon and Glenda; and three brothers, Sherman, Benjamin "B", and Blake. He was preceded in death by parents, wife, four sisters, one brother and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 1, at the Huntington LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
HELPER - Helen Eliza Salazar, age 49, passed away Dec. 1, 2001 at her home.
She was born Aug. 1, 1952 in Price, to Antonio J. Salazar and Rachel Vigil.
Lifelong resident of Carbon County. Helen enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Survived by daughter, Connie Damron, Helper; son, Johnny Damron; son, Damon Damron; father, Antonio J. Salazar, all of Price; six grandchildren, Zanphier, Justin and Jazmine Walker, Helper; Jacob and Skyler Damron, Price; sister, Rachel Laws, Price; sister, Lori Mutz, Durango, Colo.; brother, James Salazar, Salt Lake City; and brother, Joseph Salazar, Ogden. Preceded in death by mother; and brother, Claude Salazar.
Funeral service Wednesday, Dec. 5, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home daily. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
EAST CARBON CITY - Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend, Lucille Anderson Kuhns, age 82, passed away Nov. 25, 2001 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
She was born Oct. 15, 1919 in Mantua to Charles Anderson and Susana Malmrose. Married Richard C. Kuhns July 20, 1940 in Salt Lake City. He died April 9, 1981.
Longtime member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in East Carbon. Resident of East Carbon since 1944.
Lucille was the retired site director of the East Carbon senior citizen center. Member of the East Carbon American Legion Auxiliary and the East Carbon Rotary Club.
Survived by six sons, Richard C. Kuhns, Salt Lake City; Dan E. (Toshiko) Kuhns, Antelope, Calif.; Gary A. (Shirley) Kuhns, Mesa, Ariz.; David H. (Rebecca) Kuhns, Imperial, Mo.; Michael W. (Virginia) Kuhns, Mesa, Ariz.; Steven W. Kuhns, Ft. Collins, Colo.; special friend, Darlene; and her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral service Saturday, Dec. 1, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in East Carbon. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the East Carbon Leisure Club or the American Cancer Society.
SUNNYSIDE - Henry Korfanta, age 91, passed away Nov. 27, 2001 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
He was born July 1, 1910 in Tioga, Colo., to Karl and Julia Bladofsky Korfanta. Married Dorothy Post April 19, 1937 in California.
Longtime member of the East Carbon Community Church. Retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Kaiser Steel Local 9958, where he received his 60 year pin. Resident of Sunnyside since 1948.
Henry was an avid fisherman, hunter, and he loved to tinker and fix things. He will be dearly missed by family and a community of friends.
