Quilts of Valor, a program that provides quilts to each injured serviceman or woman, is being organized in Emery County. This program needs funds and interested people to help with making the quilts. For more information contact Hazel McMullin at 653-2246.

The Emery County Historical Society will hold its Veterans Day program on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. All veterans are welcome to attend the night of honor. Steve Thornton, local guardsman, having just returned from his second tour in Iraq will be the speaker and he will also present a slide show.

A snowmobile education class will be held Nov. 9 at the old courthouse building beginning at 7 p.m. Remember this class is to make youth ages 8-16 legal to drive on public lands. Application for the 2006 Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program Grants are now available through the Utah Arts Council. Interested individuals should call George Schoemaker at 801-533-5760. The grant deadline is Dec. 31.

The Camp Dale DUPs will hold their regular meeting on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Citizen Center. You need not be a member to go and enjoy time with the members.

The American Legion Unit #73 plans another membership drive meeting and dinner on Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Huntington Old Town Hall. Anyone interested in becoming an ALA member and your spouse or guest is welcome. There are many benefits to being and ALA member and having fun and food with friends is only one. Sign up now. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Lily of the Valley Camp will hold their annual pheasant hunt breakfast and lunch. It will be held one day only on Nov. 5 at the DUP building in Elmo. Breakfast will be from 7:30-11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

The Emery County Gun Club is having their grand opening trap shoot on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at the shooting range next to the Emery County Landfill. Target loads only and shells will be available at the club. For more information call 384-3279, 381-2057, or 384-2319.

There will be a special meeting to discuss the new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. They will be holding a question and answer session with Rebecca Mason the HIP Coordinator with RSVP from Price. It will be on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Center and Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Emery Senior Center. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources coupled with the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education are offering a one day workshop on Utah's wetland resources. "Utah's Wonderful Wetlands" is a curriculum created by UDWR to meet fourth grade science and other core curriculum standards. It will be held on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Moab Community Center, 182 North 500 West, Moab. The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four hour defensive driving course. Drivers may complete the course for a 50 point reduction from their Utah driving record. Individuals 55 years of age and older, may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course. Flu shots will be given daily for high risk individuals at Southeastern Utah District Health Department located at 25 West Main in Castle Dale from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Beginning Oct. 24, flu vaccine will be given to anyone who requests it during the same time period.
