For the first time in nine seasons, the 1-A volleyball champion does not go to Rich High School. Panguitch defeated Rich last Friday to win the title. The Lady Pirates from Green River, after finishing third in region play, advanced to the tournament but lost both of their matches on the opening day to finish their season.

As they have done all season, they had their moments of playing well but they also had their moments of struggling. Assistant coach Kayce Fluckey summed up the tournament; "This was a growing season for us. We had our moments but we could not stay constant. The season and the tournament were kind of frustrating. We are a team full of potential."

Green River opened the tournament against a good Piute team and they played well in a loss. The score was 25-23, 25-9 and 25-22. Although they lost the match, they played well in two of the three games. The Pirates then played Salt Lake Lutheran in the consolation bracket and lost 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20. Salt Lake Lutheran was not nearly as good of team as was Piute.

Leah Swalberg, one of two seniors on the team, played great against Piute and hopefully will get selected to be on the all-star team from the south.

Brandi Webster, Lindsey Spadafora and Crosby Hatt are all juniors that had their moments and will be counted on for next season. Bailey Packer and Jill Vetere were two sophomores that saw a lot of playing time and should be improved for next season. Coach Fluckey encourages "all girls to go to camps over the summer and to play with other girls from other schools."
