Jenni Stinson passes the ball to the front row against Salem Hills.
Jodi Robertson dives for Emery.
The Emery High Lady Spartans went on the road to Salem last Thursday night and came away with a win in their 2008 region volleyball opening game. Emery won 25-19, 25-21 and 25-19 over first-year school Salem Hills.
The Spartans have been playing better ball this season and each game their confidence in themselves gets better and better. Emery controlled each of the games from the outset and was never really threatened. The closest threat came in the second game when a Salem Hills server got a couple of good serves in before Emery made an adjustment and finished off the game.
Abbie Kay played her first game after having had eye surgery and played well in the middle. Shawnee Allred sat out the game with an ankle injury. With Allred out, Brook Jensen moved from the middle to the off-hand hitter position and the move worked out well for the Spartans.
Frankie Komar and Keera Allred, the setters on the this team, did a great job all evening long of putting the ball in the right spot for their teammates to finish off the play. Shianne Allred had some strong blocks and many smart plays from the front line to aid the team.
Emery's hitters then did their jobs with getting the ball over the net. Jodi Robertson, Allred, Jensen, Kay, Tiffany Tuttle and Sierra Bridgewater all contributed with big hits to the win.
Emery now travels to Delta this Tuesday night as region 8 competition continues and then Emery will host Carbon this Thursday night.
