The Hurricane Tigers came away from Utah Valley University with the 3-A state volleyball title but region 8 represented themselves well in the 2-day tournament.

While the Emery Spartans finished the season with two losses at the tournament their region mates finished second, third and fifth. Emery opened the tournament against region 11 champ and pre-tournament favorite Morgan and lost in three games and then played Wasatch from Region 10 and also lost in three games.

Carbon High School lost to Hurricane for the championship. Carbon defeated Uintah in three in their opening round game 25-8, 25-7 and 25-20. The Dinos then defeated Logan 25-10, 25-12 and 25-16 followed by a three-game sweep over Delta in the semi-finals. The scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20. Carbon then lost the title game 23-25, 21-25 and 11-25.

Delta defeated Park City 25-18, 25-23 and 25-23 and Grantsville 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 15-25 and 15-9. After the Carbon loss, the Rabbits defeated Morgan 26-24, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-16 to grab third place.

Juan Diego defeated Wasatch 25-12, 25-19 and 25-15. The Soaring Eagles then lost to Morgan in five games after winning the first two. They also defeated North Sanpete and Grantsville in the tournament to finish in fifth place.

The North Sanpete Hawks also won their opening match with Judge Memorial before losing out.

It was an up and down season for the Spartans and their new coach Kris Bell. With hard work in the off season and the experience of playing in a very tough region plus the experience of playing at state should bode well for the Spartans in the future.
