Last weekend, the Green River boy's basketball team traveled to Richfield for a pair of games and left with a split. On Friday night, Milford ran all over Green River 64-44 and on Saturday night the Pirates had their way with Bryce Valley. Final score was 65-57 in a game that was not that close.

Against Bryce Valley, Green River streaked to a 22-8 first quarter lead and increased it in the second quarter from a 14-point lead to a 22-point lead, as they also owned the second period 21-13. Bryce Valley won the third quarter 16-13 and then took the final period 20-9 for the final score of 65-57.

Tyson Johnson led the team with 21 points and brother Jason Johnson scored 12 points. Two other Pirates finished in double figures as Holden Marshall scored 11 points and Brennan Bigelow scored 10 points. Kayden Mecham scored eight points and Justin Johnson hit a 3-pointer for three points. Mecham hit two 3-pointers and Marshall one.

In the Milford game, the Pirates got out to a slow start and could never recover. Milford led 19-9 at the end of the first period and then increased the lead to 37-18 at the half. Green River fell further behind in the third quarter at 54-27 before outscoring Milford in the final period 17-10.

Mecham led the way with 15 points followed by Jason Johnson with 14 points. Bigelow had eight points, Tyson Johnson had five points and Justin Johnson had two points.

The Lady Pirates lost two home games last week. Piute came to town on Tuesday and prevailed 55-37. Grand High then came to town on Thursday and they won 53-31.

Brandi Webster led the team in scoring in both games. Brandi scored 20 against Piute and followed that with eight points against Grand. In the Piute game, Lindsey Spadafora added eight points with Cady Mecham scoring four points, Crosby Hatt three points and Tracy Engelman two points.

Aiding the effort against Grand were Bailie Packer with seven points, Sarah Swalberg with five points, Courtney Carter with four points, Mecham with three points and Hatt and Spadafora with two points each.

Both Pirate teams finish their pre-Christmas schedule with two home games this week. On Wednesday, they host Meridian and Saturday they host Altamont. Girls JV starting time is 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. The boy's JV game is next followed by the girls varsity game and then the boys varsity game.
