Recently, the Green River Pirates played Wayne High School for the privilege of facing third ranked Duchesne in the opening round of the 1-A state tournament. Unfortunately the game ended after press time.
Wayne defeated Green River in the opening game of the season 67-48. Since that game Wayne finished the season with a 13-8 record while Green River finished the season at 12-8. Wayne averaged 59.24 points per game while the Pirates scored 58.80 points per game. Wayne gave up 54.29 points per game while the Pirates gave up 54.00 points per game.
Tyson Johnson and his 13.50 points per game led Green River this season. Jason Johnson averages 12.19 points, Kayden Mecham averages 11.65 points and Brennan Bigelow averages 11.20 points as four Pirates finished the season with double-digit averages.
The winner of the play-in game will face Duchesne at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. Duchesne finished 17-3 for the season.
