Albert Lavon Blackburn
Albert Lavon Blackburn, age 91, passed away July 1, 2009 at his home in California.
Lavon was born March 22, 1918 in Clawson, Utah. He was the fifth of eight children born to AnnieÂ Jorgensen and Albert Blackburn.Â He spent the early years of his life in Emery County.
When he was a young man Lavon joined theÂ CivilianÂ Conservation CorpsÂ (CCC camps). While he was working around Green River, Utah, he met the love of his lifeÂ Stella May Brown.
They married on Sept. 27, 1941 in Green River, Utah and wereÂ later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple.Â
They moved to California shortly after and began their family.Â They were theÂ proud parents ofÂ eight children and provided a home and love for many foster children.Â
Lavon supported his family by working hard all of his life.Â He retired in 1992 after working for 35 years for Armstrong TileÂ where he wasÂ lead mechanic.Â Actually, he continued working and never really retired.
In 2002,Â Lavon and Stella and two of their children moved to Vernal to beÂ back in Utah where he always wanted to retire.
While,Â they were in Vernal they experienced a few heartbreaks, Stella began suffering ill health. After thinking about it for awhile, Lavon decided to move back to California to be withÂ his daughters and grandchildren there.
Lavon is survived by his wife Stella, daughters Karen Williams, Cammie Blackburn andÂ Kimberly Blackburn of Brea, Calif.,Â son Rick Blackburn of Napa, Calif.Â Brother Elden of Salt Lake City,Â Utah.,Â sister Darlene KartchnerÂ of Price, Utah, daughter-in-law Sue Blackburn of Vernal.Â He is alsoÂ survived byÂ 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Clifton, Rulon and Floyd, sisters Pearl and Gloria, sons Robert Blackburn and Kenneth Blackburn, daughter Geneal RichardsÂ and granddaughter RhondaÂ Langston; son-in-law Roy Williams of Brea, Calif. and grandson-in-law Devin Guymon of Vernal.
Funeral Services were heldÂ at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary on Thursday July 9, 2009 atÂ 4 p.m. Friends and Family called at the mortuary one hour prior to services. Burial was in VernalÂ Memorial Park, under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
