The electrifying country group Emerson Drive will perform free at the Emery County Fair on Aug. 8 beginning at 7 p.m.
It's fair week in Emery County. There are a myriad of activities planned to bring the county together to celebrate its heritage and pioneer spirit as well as look ahead to the future in the county. There is something for everyone at the fair. Activities will begin on Aug. 4 with the Beauty and the Beast musical production at the Castle Valley pageant site and beginning each evening at 8 p.m. The musical will run from Aug. 4-7.
The free dinner and dessert will kick-off the fair activities at the fair park in Castle Dale along with the free swim at the Aquatic park. The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and will go until the food is gone. The dessert will be served after the dinner and features ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery. The free swim day at the Emery County Aquatic Center will also be held all during the day. The musical entertainment this night will be Eric Dodge at 7 p.m. under the big tent at the fair.
Thursday begins a full slate of activities including the $25,000 bingo sponsored by Tyler Jeffs Farm Bureau Financial. Also on Thursday will be senior day at the fair. A free lunch for seniors begins at noon. The senior band will perform and the Center Stage Dancers will entertain from noon- 1 p.m. and again from 5-6 p.m. X Box and Madden will be featured all afternoon each day of the fair for the youth. A 3D archery shoot will take place from 3 p.m. until dark on the ball fields. The Bingo game will be from 4-6 p.m. At 6 p.m. the Little Miss Emery Pageant will take place under the big tent. The Miss Emery queens will entertain from 2-3 p.m. The free teen activity will take place at the pool beginning at 8:30 p.m. The Folk Life village will run from 1-6 p.m. each day of the fair and will include a look back at pioneer activities.
Friday will also feature a full day of activities. The special needs youth will have their own special activity from 9-10 a.m. The pet show begins at 10 a.m. with the baby olympics from 11-noon. Kids games at the fair from noon-2 p.m. The cell phone photo contest will be at 1 p.m. The text messaging contest will be from 3-4 p.m. A home run derby will be held at 4 p.m. The Crescent Super band will perform from 5-6 p.m. The Sand Art Sculpture will be held each day of the fair. The exhibits will be open each day of the fair in the exhibit hall.
Saturday begins with the parade at 10 a.m. along the Castle Dale Main Street. Registration for the parade will take place outside at the Blue Sage Arena. Parade entrants will line up in order of appearance in the parade. Call 381-2108 if you would still like to get your group in the parade.The Hypno Hick will host a performance at noon and again at 3:30 p.m. Shaun Barrowes will perform from 1-2 p.m and from 5-6 p.m. The Newlyweds Game show will be from 2-3 p.m. The fair will culminate with the grand free outdoor concert featuring Emerson Drive at 7 p.m. The Miss Emery royalty will open the concert at 7 p.m. Artie Hemphill and the Ironhorse band will be the opening act. After Artie and his band the main event, Emerson Drive will perform. There will be drawings from Desertview Credit Union and lucky winners will be allowed the chance to grab money in the money machine. Call Desertview at 687-2472 or 384-2822 to get signed up to play.
The ever popular food court and vendors will be set-up all during the fair. There will be the climbing wall and inflatable toys each day to keep the children happy.
Fair organizers encourage everyone to come to Fair Week with the theme, Sagebrush and Surprises. All entertainment is free as a way to encourage participation and thank residents for all they do to make Emery County a great place to live.
