Emery basketball 6-0 for first half of region play

The Emery Spartans finished the first half of region 12 play with a perfect 5-0 record after an easy 66-45 victory at Manti and then started the second half of the season just like the first half, with a win over North Sanpete. This time the score was 74-57.

At Manti, Emery was forced to play much of the game without either of their starting post players as both were forced to the bench with foul trouble. Midway through the second quarter, Colton Barnett picked up foul number four and Tanner Procarione picked up foul number three. The Spartans played a lot of the game with four guards and did very well going to an outside game rather than an inside game.

Against Manti, five different Spartan shooter had two 3-pointers in the game as Emery shot very well from the outside. Nevin Jensen, Mark Guymon, Derek Tuttle, Jake Fortner and Ty Benson all hit a pair of threes.

Against North Sanpete, Jensen, Tuttle and Guymon all hit three 3-point shots as Emery continued shooting the ball well from the outside.

At Manti, Emery led 18-15 after the first quarter as Tuttle scored six points. Emery outscored Manti 15-8 in the second quarter as Jensen scored 12 points in the period. Emery won the third quarter 16-9 to lead by 17 points after three. Emery also won the final period 17-13.

Scoring in the game was Jensen with 23 points, Benson with eight points, Fortner and Guymon with seven points and Tuttle, Procarione and Barnett with sixpoints each.

Against North Sanpete, Emery led 27-14 after the first quarter in a run fest of a game. Both teams put the ball on the floor and simply did everything in a hurry. Barnett had eight points in the quarter but Tuttle and Guymon each had six points. It was more of the same in the second period as Emery won the quarter 17-9. Emery led 14-12 with about three minutes left in the first quarter and outscored the Hawks 13-2 to close out the period.

To start the second quarter, Emery outscored the Hawks 13-4 in the first four minutes of play. That is 26-6 advantage Emery.

Emery continued building their lead in the third quarter as they won the period at 20-14. They led by as much as 26 points.

Jensen led the team again in scoring, this time with 19 points. Jensen also had four rebounds, 23 assists and two steals. Barnett finished with 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, had two blocked shots and dished out an assist. Derek Tuttle also finished in double figures for scoring with 12 points. Derek also had three rebounds and two steals. Guymon was the final Spartan to score in double figures as he finished with 11 points. Guymon also had two rebounds, two steals and two assists. Also scoring in the game were Fortner with six points, TJ Furner and Kashe Potter with four points each and Tanner Procarione and Benson with two points each.

Emery is home Wednesday against the second-place in region 12, the Juab Wasps. Emery then travels to Richfield for a Friday night game.
